You might find the following plants in a Vermont food forest. These are all routinely available through many garden suppliers.
Known as having a High drought tolerance, the Tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum) is in the Buckwheat family. It requires a minimum temperature of 42°F.
The fruit/seed period of the Tartary buckwheat runs from Summer to Fall. It si propogated by Seed and has a bloom period in Mid Summer.
In areas with an annual rainfall of between 35 and 55 inches, you might find the Tartary buckwheat, which is Introduced to VT.
