A member of the Pea family, the common name for Cercis canadensis is eastern redbud. Requiring a minimum temperature of -28°F, it has a High tolerance of drought.
Native to TX, the eastern redbud is common in food forests. It grows in areas with a minimum of 20 inches of annual rainfall.
You may live in a micro-climate or area of Texas where some species don’t thrive or fruit.
