Following are some options for your Ontario food forest. All of these plants are routinely available in areas where they thrive.

The Tartary buckwheat is Introduced to ON. It requires precipitation between 35 and 55 inches of rain annually.

The Tartary buckwheat is propogated by Seed. With a bloom period in Mid Summer, the fruit/seed period begins in Summer and ends in Fall.

The Tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum) is in the Buckwheat family. It’s drought tolerance is High and requires a minimum temperature of 42°F.

While a plant species may generally thrive and fruit in Ontario, you may be in a climate that isn’t optimal.

Consult your local garden supplier or continue researching in order to find plants, shrubs and ground cover that match your specific hardiness zone, rainfall and direct sun.
