About Cat Litter

Self-cleaning litter boxes are amazing, but there’s nothing amazing about dealing with litter that is stuck at the bottom of the box and inside of the cleaning mechanism. If you have a self-cleaning box, go with a corn based litter. This type of litter won’t stick so your box can stay clean without any hassle.

Your Ontario Food Forest

Your garden can supply an abundance of food – seeds, nuts, fruits and more compromise a “food forest”.   A food forest is a multi-layered composition of food-producing plants.  It is ideally low-maintenance and produces a wealth of edibles.

Want to eat more organic food? A food forest is a great way to do that.

Permaculture design identifies seven layers in a food forest, from the tallest trees in the canopy continuing down below the soil layer.

There are many varieties of plants that are routinely available in Ontario garden centers, including a few examples below.

The annual wildrice requires between 30 and 50 inches of rain per annum. It is Native to ON.

Surviving in temperatures above 32°F, the annual wildrice is in the Grass family. It’s scientific name is Zizania aquatica, and it has a None drought tolerance.

The annual wildrice has a Indeterminate bloom period. Propogated by Seed, the fruit/seed period of the annual wildrice lasts from Summer to Fall.

While a plant may be listed as fruit-bearing in Ontario, you might not have the best growing conditions in your specific area.

Talking to your local garden supplier is a great way to learn more about the plants, shrubs and ground species that will be the perfect fit for your new food forest.

Are you growing an awesome food forest? Submit a picture and we may feature you on this site.
