About Eggs

The nutrients in an organic egg are shared between the yolk and white, so recipes and cooking techniques calling for the whole egg will allow you to make the most of this nutritional food. More fat is found in the egg yolk versus the white, but the yolk also contains sulfur, which is critical to proper use of good cholesterol.

Your New Jersey Food Forest

Your garden can supply an abundance of food – seeds, nuts, fruits and more compromise a “food forest”.   A food forest is a multi-layered composition of food-producing plants.  It is ideally low-maintenance and produces a wealth of edibles.

Want to eat more organic food? A food forest is a great way to do that.

Permaculture design identifies seven layers in a food forest, from the tallest trees in the canopy continuing down below the soil layer.

There are many varieties of plants that are routinely available in New Jersey garden centers, including a few examples below.

Surviving in temperatures above -38°F, the common cowparsnip is in the Carrot family. It’s scientific name is Heracleum maximum, and it has a Low drought tolerance.

The common cowparsnip has a Early Summer bloom period. Propogated by Seed, the fruit/seed period of the common cowparsnip lasts from Summer to Summer.

The common cowparsnip requires between 14 and 45 inches of rain per annum. It is Native to NJ.

While a plant may be listed as fruit-bearing in New Jersey, you might not have the best growing conditions in your specific area.

Talking to your local garden supplier is a great way to learn more about the plants, shrubs and ground species that will be the perfect fit for your new food forest.

Are you growing an awesome food forest? Submit a picture and we may feature you on this site.

Only need to use the whites? Look for organic egg whites in a carton. Often, these are pasteurized, allowing you to use them raw.
