Permaculture design embraces food forests which have horizontal layers such as the canopy and a vertical layer such as vines.
You might find the following plants in a New Brunswick food forest. These are all routinely available through many garden suppliers.
In areas with an annual rainfall of between 10 and 70 inches, you might find the sandbar willow, which is Native to NB.
The fruit/seed period of the sandbar willow runs from to Spring. It si propogated by Bare root, Container, Cuttings, Seed, Sprigs and has a bloom period in Early Spring.
Known as having a Low drought tolerance, the sandbar willow (Salix interior) is in the Willow family. It requires a minimum temperature of -62°F.
Not every plant species listed as a food forest candidate in New Brunswick will thrive in your specific climate or area.
