About Cat Food

Don’t change your cat’s food at once. Mix your regular food in with the organic cat food at first so your cat can make the transition easily. After you mix the food for a week, your cat will be ready to eat a full serving of organic food at all of his meals.

Trees, shrubs and ground plants can be combined in a low-maintenance garden settings to produce edible food for the kitchen.  Seeds, nuts, fruits and herbs can be harvested from a multi-layered food forest.

A food forest contributes to a diet with more organic options.

Permaculture design embraces food forests which have horizontal layers such as the canopy and a vertical layer such as vines.

You might find the following plants in a Louisiana food forest. These are all routinely available through many garden suppliers.

In areas with an annual rainfall of between 29 and 80 inches, you might find the shagbark hickory, which is Native to LA.

Known as having a Medium drought tolerance, the shagbark hickory (Carya ovata) is in the Walnut family. It requires a minimum temperature of -40°F.

The fruit/seed period of the shagbark hickory runs from Summer to Fall. It si propogated by Bare root, Container, Seed and has a bloom period in Late Spring.

Not every plant species listed as a food forest candidate in Louisiana will thrive in your specific climate or area.
