You might find the following plants in a Illinois food forest. These are all routinely available through many garden suppliers.
Known as having a Low drought tolerance, the butternut (Juglans cinerea) is in the Walnut family. It requires a minimum temperature of -33°F.
In areas with an annual rainfall of between 25 and 80 inches, you might find the butternut, which is Native to IL.
