Known as having a High drought tolerance, the New Jersey tea (Ceanothus americanus) is in the Buckthorn family. It requires a minimum temperature of -28°F.

The fruit/seed period of the New Jersey tea runs from Summer to Fall. It si propogated by Bare root, Container, Seed and has a bloom period in Late Spring.

In areas with an annual rainfall of between 25 and 60 inches, you might find the New Jersey tea, which is Native to IL.

Not every plant species listed as a food forest candidate in Illinois will thrive in your specific climate or area.
