The use of the word conventional refers to anything that is not organic. But that’s a bit deceptive. Surviving in temperatures above -33°F, the Canadian serviceberry is in the Rose family. It’s scientific name is Amelanchier canadensis, and it has a Low drought tolerance.
While a plant may be listed as fruit-bearing in Georgia, you might not have the best growing conditions in your specific area.
Talking to your local garden supplier is a great way to learn more about the plants, shrubs and ground species that will be the perfect fit for your new food forest.
