You might find the following plants in a Montana food forest. These are all routinely available through many garden suppliers.
Known as having a High drought tolerance, the wax currant (Ribes cereum) is in the Currant family. It requires a minimum temperature of -23°F.
The fruit/seed period of the wax currant runs from Spring to Fall. It si propogated by Bare root, Container, Corms, Cuttings and has a bloom period in Early Summer.
In areas with an annual rainfall of between 13 and 35 inches, you might find the wax currant, which is Native to MT.
Not every plant species listed as a food forest candidate in Montana will thrive in your specific climate or area.
