About Red Wine

Organic wineries that got a bad rap initially are now producing beautiful, complex, and delicious organic red wines. While there may be organic wineries that produce organic wines just for the organic market potential, there are also many wineries that have taken a back-to-traditions approach and created organic red wine worth drinking. Can I Grow Organic Food in Hill County?

Your garden can supply an abundance of food – seeds, nuts, fruits and more compromise a “food forest”.   A food forest is a multi-layered composition of food-producing plants.  It is ideally low-maintenance and produces a wealth of edibles.

Want to eat more organic food? A food forest is a great way to do that.

Permaculture design identifies seven layers in a food forest, from the tallest trees in the canopy continuing down below the soil layer.

There are many varieties of plants that are routinely available in Montana garden centers, including a few examples below.

The Jerusalem artichoke requires between 15 and 55 inches of rain per annum. It is Native to MT.

Surviving in temperatures above -43°F, the Jerusalem artichoke is in the Aster family. It’s scientific name is Helianthus tuberosus, and it has a High drought tolerance.

The Jerusalem artichoke has a Late Summer bloom period. Propogated by Seed, Tubers, the fruit/seed period of the Jerusalem artichoke lasts from Summer to Fall.

While a plant may be listed as fruit-bearing in Montana, you might not have the best growing conditions in your specific area.

Talking to your local garden supplier is a great way to learn more about the plants, shrubs and ground species that will be the perfect fit for your new food forest.

Are you growing an awesome food forest? Submit a picture and we may feature you on this site.
