About Swift County Food Forests

The fruit/seed period of the sugar maple runs from Summer to Fall. It si propogated by Bare root, Container, Cuttings, Seed and has a bloom period in Mid Spring.

Known as having a Medium drought tolerance, the sugar maple (Acer saccharum) is in the Maple family. It requires a minimum temperature of -47°F.

In areas with an annual rainfall of between 22 and 80 inches, you might find the sugar maple, which is Native to MN.

Not every plant species listed as a food forest candidate in Minnesota will thrive in your specific climate or area.

Take a weekend trip to your local garden supply store and learn more about which plants, shrubs and ground cover will be a great fit for your food forest.
