Propogated by Bare root, Container, Seed, the American black elderberry enjoys a bloom period in Spring. the fruit/seed period runs from Spring to Summer.
Native to IN, the American black elderberry is common in food forests. It grows in areas with a minimum of 34 inches of annual rainfall.
You may live in a micro-climate or area of Indiana where some species don’t thrive or fruit.
