Native to CA, the screwbean mesquite is common in food forests. It grows in areas with a minimum of 6 inches of annual rainfall.
A member of the Pea family, the common name for Prosopis pubescens is screwbean mesquite. Requiring a minimum temperature of -3°F, it has a Medium tolerance of drought.
You may live in a micro-climate or area of California where some species don’t thrive or fruit.
