About Smoothies

Worried about your protein intake? Grab an organic smoothie! Look for a variety made with added protein. You will know its coming from a natural source, like hemp or flax seed, rather than a mystery powder. Drink it down and reap the benefits of organic fruits, veggies, and protein! Can I Grow Organic Food in Houston County?

Your garden can supply an abundance of food – seeds, nuts, fruits and more compromise a “food forest”.   A food forest is a multi-layered composition of food-producing plants.  It is ideally low-maintenance and produces a wealth of edibles.

Want to eat more organic food? A food forest is a great way to do that.

Permaculture design identifies seven layers in a food forest, from the tallest trees in the canopy continuing down below the soil layer.

There are many varieties of plants that are routinely available in Alabama garden centers, including a few examples below.

The soybean has a Mid Summer bloom period. Propogated by Seed, the fruit/seed period of the soybean lasts from Summer to Fall.

The soybean requires between 16 and 59 inches of rain per annum. It is Introduced to AL.

Surviving in temperatures above -28°F, the soybean is in the Pea family. It’s scientific name is Glycine max, and it has a Medium drought tolerance.

While a plant may be listed as fruit-bearing in Alabama, you might not have the best growing conditions in your specific area.

Talking to your local garden supplier is a great way to learn more about the plants, shrubs and ground species that will be the perfect fit for your new food forest.

Are you growing an awesome food forest? Submit a picture and we may feature you on this site.
